Paint the town Red

Well, it's about darn time for another post on here, isn't it?  My profuse apologies for the lack of posts on here in recent months - I have gone through quite the change in location, and change of school.  As of now, I am now going to school in Boston, MA - from coast to coast, you might say!  I couldn't be happier, now studying film full time, and having a lot of fun dressing for the colder weather days.
Believe me, as someone who spent half her life in MI, it's nice to incorporate pieces like tights, and big coats, and LOTS of scarves :)
But, I digress.
On to today's post!  I've been doing some research on the Fall/Winter 2013 trends, so what better way to get back into the writing swing of things then to Polyvore a few sets with some of the trends I'll be adding to my wardrobe in the colder months to come.  Overall, reds of all sorts were huge on the catwalk - from dresses, to pants, to over-sized coats - there was surely no shortage of this chic shade!  Other trends that made there way onto the runway were Tartan, Tweed, and the wonderful fashion decade of the 40's.

Tartan: From a mini skirt and a plain t-shirt, cigarette pants, or even a jacket - this print adds a bit of punk to any look.  Great for a night on the town, or even just to spice up your look at school, for a fun twist, opt for this tough-girl trend!

Tweed:  A beautiful cloth, introduced originally in scotland, any piece of clothing made of this is sure to catch the eye of any passerby!  Beautifully done in coats, suits, and sweaters too - for the cooler days we're bound to encounter, write a note to yourself, reminding you to try tweed on for size the next time you visit you're nearest shopping local :)

40's: Oh, how I do love a bit of 40's fashion.  Prada, Carolina Herrera, and Louis Vuitton got in on the act for the Fall/Winter 2013 runway shows, and red ran amongst some of their looks as well.  In "Structured and Sophisticated", I took the 40's trend on in the form of a dress - though you can really take this decade on in pants coats - heck, they wore lots of pieces in the 40's!  Anyway, red is a great color to incorporate with this trend - if you're feeling like throwing on a little cocktail dress and hitting the town, go for this perfectly poised look.

Well, there you have it folks.  I hope I didn't disappoint in this weeks post, and I PROMISE there will be more of these to come - it seemed as though the "poll" format of figuring out what you all wanted to see next on here worked well, so I will be updating that with new choices - if you have any further suggestions for future updates, feel free to leave a comment in the section below!

Make It Work: Patterned Tights

Happy Friday Followers!

My apologies for the hiatus over the past couple of weeks - I had a couple of final exams that were in desperate need of my attention, and in my haste, I completely neglected my blog :'/  But I'm back, and with a new addition to the "Make it Work" collection.  This week's featured item is Patterned Tights, as requested on the poll in the sidebar.  Patterned tights are a great addition to anyone's wardrobe.  In bright colors and bold prints, they'll add a "pop!" to any look.  From dainty to daring, these outfit alterers are also great for a variety of weather situations that we find ourselves put through year round.  Make sure (if you haven't already) you add these to your shopping list today!

As always, to help decide what the featured item in next weeks' post will be, leave a comment here or submit your vote on the left side of the webpage :)

Keep Classy and Chic,

Make it Work: High-Low Skirt

Woohoo!  Hello again Weekend!
It is too crazy to think it's almost MARCH already, where has the time gone?  I already see drugstores putting out for sale all the easter decorations and candy (I will be in need of some of those peeps!), and we haven't even celebrated St. Patrick's Day yet!
That said, this week, I wanted to put together a collection that had 1.) A look for the weather right now (i.e winter schtuff, "Golden Girl"), 2.) A fun outfit for all times of the year (i.e acceptable to wear whenever, "Quirky Cool"), and 3.) A look for the warmer months that we are all wishing were right now (i.e you probably shouldn't wear this if there's still snow on the ground, "Pretty in Pastel" - please pardon the typo I've made in the actual polyvore set!).  This week's featured item is the high-low skirt, a  piece that has been on trend for quite sometime now, and continues to be popular among many brands. This item is easy to dress up or down, depending on its material and the accessories it's paired with.  Cute graphic tees with accessories that add a splash of color are a great way to wear them to school/casual events, and for a formal occasion, adding luxe accessories and bold textures to this piece help boost its "It" factor.

To make sure you have your say in next week's post, place your vote in the poll on the sidebar or leave a comment bellow on what you'd like to see featured in the "Make it Work" collection!

Q of the Day:  Where's your favorite place to don a High-Low Skirt?

Voted on by you, this week I have put together a selection of sets featuring Nautical Stripes.  Nautical stripes are wearable year-round, just adjust to the season by changing the length or coverage of your piece to keep you warm/cool.  Because it's a fairly basic pattern, jazz up your look by integrated a certain decade or theme to your look :)  Above all, have fun adding this item into your wardrobe!

Q of the Day: How would you integrate Nautical Stripes into your outfit?

Make it Work: Leotard

Happy Friday Followers!

Wooh!  I hope you guys have all had a great week, and for my friends in college like me, I hope your midterms went smoothly as well!  What better way to welcome in the weekend then with a new addition of "Make it Work" for your viewing pleasure?  The votes were in, and what was asked for was a collection featuring leotards - a staple in the closets of ballerinas and gymnasts alike.
Want to know something?
It should be a staple in every women's wardrobe!  As you can see from the sets I've put together, you can really pair this piece with any type of overlaying items, from floral pants to high-waisted shorts.  So why not go out there and get one of your own??
As always, make sure you have your say in what item will be featured in next week's post by voting in the poll in the sidebar, or commenting on this post below!

Make it Work: Tuxedo Pants

Hello All!

I must apologize for my absence last week in posting here, I was away in Napa with my A Capella group, singing melodious tunes to the masses (well, not masses, but there was definitely a huge turnout!), and I was unable to access my blog :'(
But this week, as requested, here's a new edition to the "Make it Work" collection, this time featuring Tuxedo Pants.  Normally thought to be a piece for more formal affairs, these slacks can be quite versatile.  Add a slouchy sweater and sneakers for a casual look, or a pair of bright pumps and a bralet top for a sleek and sophisticated ensemble!

As always, to help decide what item next week's collection will feature, cast your vote in the poll on the sidebar.

Q of the Day:  What's your top tip on taking a formal piece to something more wearable for everyday affairs?

Liv.
