A Few of My Favorite Things- First Installment

Rain drops on roses and whiskers on kittens...
Alas, while quite lovely and adorable, these aren't at the top of my list this week.

But these are :)
H&M Faux Fur Vest- a very big trend right now, It could really be styled to fit any occasion.  I'm hoping to go hunting for one of these once I'm on break.

Chic layering, via The Man Repeller's Leandra Medine- I've recently become obsessed with layering sweaters and button downs like this ( If you read my last post on Airport Attire, her outfit is definitely something I would classify as looking effortlessly put together )
Black, studded combat boots from River Island- would look super cute with a pair of skinnies and a utility jacket :)  I love the extra toughness the studs give the boot.
Essie nail polish in "Sew Psyched"- a very sophisticated winter shade.
25 ways to wear a scarf in 4.5 minutes video, via wendy's look book on youtube- so useful if you're an avid scarf-wearer like moi!

So there you have it, my top five favorite things of the week.  Check back next week for another installment, and later this week for a special "how to dress for a holiday party" post :)

Airport Attire

Hey guys!  As vacation season is nearly upon us (or for some, it has already started), I thought I'd put together a little set showcasing a few ideas of what to wear to the airport.  It always feels nice to look chic, even when your on an airplane!

Vacation Time
I love to wear a button-down or a fun sweater with some slacks when I'm traveling, and a black loop scarf gives it a little extra something.  The key is to look effortlessly put together, and when you keep accessories minimal, and footwear simple, it's very easy to do so.  Want to mix it up but still feel comfy?  Try a sweater dress and a pair of thick tights- you'll stay warm while looking very put together.

That's all for now- any requests for sets or posts, leave a comment below :)

A new collaboration for H&M: Operation Marni

Hold up.
Soooo, the designer that created garments such as these

and these
Is now doing a spring collaboration for H&M!?
Oh my freaking goodness.  Thank you Marni and H&M.

(creative director for Marni Consuelo Castiglioni and creative advisor for H&M Margareta van den Bosch)

And if that isn't enough, it's going to be sold in over 250 stores around the world, as well as online!  I was quite bumbed about not being able to purchase things from the Versace for H&M collection online, and as I don't live near any of the stores that were holding the collection, I couldn't go and purchase pieces in person.  But hopefully, with this next collaboration, I'll have a little better luck.  I love the slight eccentricity that Marni brings to their collections, and the detail that each piece holds.  The prints maintain a level of chicness, while still pushing boundaries.
I personally can't wait to hear, and see more from this collection.  How about you?

Less is More

I'm a firm believer in getting the most bang for your buck.  I found this video to be a very helpful tool for creating multiple looks with a minimal amount of clothing.  The basics shown can be found in many different stores, at many different prices, so you don't need to spend a whole lot of money to look chic every day!  You just need the right wardrobe pieces, and here Chriselle Lim shows you the things you'll need to create many fashion forward ensembles :)
Q: How would you pair some of the pieces in the video?

I'm Thankful For: Style Edition

Note: I wrote this post on Thanksgiving, but our 24 hours of internet expired in our hotel room, so I couldn't post it until now :)

Giving Thanks
Happy (belated) Thanksgiving everyone!  This post is dedicated to the pieces in my wardrobe that I’m most thankful for this year, as well as the one's I'm thankful for on turkey day- let’s get started!

1.) Elastic Waistbands: Though I wouldn’t wear them on a regular basis, I give thanks to their flexibility after the turkey and stuffing is passed around :)

2.) Sweater Dresses: Perfectly comfortable and chic, they're perfect for the colder fall days and appropriate for dressier occasions.

3.) Desert Boots:  Effortlessly cool, they're my new go-to shoe!  They're practical, and can be worn throughout the year.  They literally go with anything you have to wear!

4.) Scarves: Whether they're patterned, wool, or looped, they're cozy and a great accessory when your trying to keep your look simple.

5.) Staple Jewelry: Those pieces you throw on when your not sure what jewelry to wear.  I always wear my grandma's dolphin ring and chain necklace- they're very comforting and special to me, and they remind me how grateful I am for my family members :)

6.) Red Lipstick: I don't usually wear a lot of makeup, but when I'm looking to make my look a little more fierce, this is what I reach for.  It's so classy, and it instantly adds a level of sophistication to anything you wear.

I'm also thankful for my followers, as well as those of you who just take the time to read my blog!  You guys are all awesome, and motivate me to keep blogging and putting out better posts each time I sit down to write.
Thank you :)
Q: What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?

The Midi

"Knee Deep"
Let's talk skirts!  Midi skirts are a huge trend this season, with many designers pulling inspiration from the 40's, 60's, and 70's.  I've never been a huge wearer of mini skirts, so I was ecstatic when the knee-length skirt came back into the spotlight.  I put together a few ensembles using the Midi in the image above - one's a more casual look (Cozy), one's more spring/summer oriented (Demure), and the last is great for a night out on the town, or a fun holiday get-together (Sharp)!
Perfect for keeping you looking chic and warm, I have a feeling this trend will be around for the long haul :)

Let's Talk Trends!

Ciao!
One of my favorite trends this season is Menswear.  The tuxedo jackets, crisp white dress shirts, and sleek black slacks can be worn on so many different occasions.  You don't need to keep all three of these pieces together either.  Here are a few ways that I might wear these pieces when I'm putting together a look.

Tuxedo Jacket: Day to Night
The Tuxedo Jacket: For a cute look that's school appropriate, I'd pair this with a plain black V-neck, a pair of white jeans, black combat boots, and a few silver chains as an accessory.  For a night out on the town, switch out the black V-neck for a white V-neck, and change the white jeans to a high waisted, colored pencil skirt.  For shoes, I'd put on some black peep-toes, and for accessories, add a black belt and a simple necklace.

White Dress Shirt: Day to Night
White Dress Shirt: For a day-to-day kind of look that's equestrian inspired, pair with either dark-washed jeans, or plain black slacks.  Add brown knee-high boots and a statement necklace, and you're good to go! Going on a dinner date?  Trade the pants for a velvety pair of shorts (in navy, black, or army green, deep red), and throw on some black ankle booties, and add a black sweater/jacket.  Accessories = layer on a couple of wooden bangles, and grab a clutch.  Keep it simple with accessories when you have a look that pretty simple itself!
Tip:  When you're pairing a a sweater of any color or material, make sure it doesn't pass the skirt or shorts you have on.

Structured Pants: Day to Night
Black Slacks:  For a laid back look, pair with a fun graphic T-shirt, tucked in.  Shoes,  I recommend, should have a little bit of a wedge, so I'd pair this look with a pair of neutral-colored desert boots, that have a little wedge.  This helps you to both stand up taller, and it prevents your slacks from dragging on the ground.  If looking to dress up these pants, I suggest you pair with a pointed-toe heel, in a neutral shade.  For the top, put on a shirt that's got some fun detailing on the shoulders in a bold color, or something flowy with a cool pattern.  Add a fun cocktail ring, and your set!

So there you have it, a couple of different ways to wear pieces from the menswear trend this fall/winter :)
-Leave a comment an tell me what your favorite trend this season is!
Q of the day:  How would you wear the menswear trend?

As always, keep classy and chic!

Quick lil' nail polish dealy do :)

Ok so I just wanted to quickly share my new fav nail polish line.....
Inspired by the Muppets!  Aw yeah, I love me some muppets :)
Right now I have my nails painted with the color on the top right side, called "Warm and Fozzie".  I also have the "Fresh Frog of Bel-Air"(bottom row, third from the right), and I'm hoping to get "Pepe's Purple Passion" (top row, third from the right) A.S.A.P!
My favorite would have to by that "Warm and Fozzie" shade, not just because I <3 Fozzie Bear, but because of the really neat metallic sheen it has to it.  If you look closely at it, you'll also see little rainbow flecks in it!  Sweet, right?  It's a great brown polish to go into the winter months with, and it will transition fine into the summer months as well.
As always, keep it classy and stay chic!

Middle of the week, feeling Chic

Happy middle of the week peeps!

This is kind of an outfit-of-the-day post...except not, because I took these photos two days ago...
Whatevs.

After my last post on vintage clothes, I was inspired to do a little shopping- in my dad's closet! (I don't even know if I should classify that as vintage, but I'm going to anyway because THAT'S JUST HOW I ROLE.)
:)

Moving on!  In my search for buried treasures, I found the lovely sweater that can be seen in the two pictures, as well as the holiday-esque checkered scarf.
At first I thought of belting the sweater, but I like how it just kind of hangs, giving off a "Super comfy yet pulled together" feel, and I think I would have felt a bit constricted by the belt.  Both the scarf and the sweater are super warm, so it seemed the perfect choice to pull on since the weather has decided it doesn't feel like being warm anymore :(
I'm really really excited because next week I'll be visiting Chicago, so I'm going to do outfit of the day posts each day - including Turkey Day itself!
If you have questions about putting together a certain look, or want me to talk about a certain trend, feel free to leave a comment in the section below.  Tata for now, and as always,
Stay Chic :)

It came from the closet..

                   Your Mom's closet, that is.
(or dad's, or grandma's, or any one else's, for that matter)
I'm talking vintage here people!  I LOVE vintage clothes, and probably about half my wardrobe consists of garments I found when sifting through buckets of my mom's old clothes.  What's old is new again, with many of fashion's biggest names are taking inspiration from the 40's (Miu Miu Fall 2011), 50's (Jill Sander Spring 2012), 60's (YSL, Burberry Prorsum), 70's (Tory Burch Fall 2011, Chloe), and so on.  So let's go through the old boxes in grandma's basement!  There could be some really neat finds hiding down there :)
Things to know when shopping or hunting down vintage:
1.) Know that not all vintage is "good" vintage.
-You'll want to avoid the stained sweater, though it may be a very, very cute one.  You might end up spending more money on trying to remove it then you may spend on a brand new, or perfectly normal vintage sweater.
2.) Always be bargain shopping when you're trying to find vintage clothes.
-I'm not looking to drop a whole lot of cash on something that's already been worn.  Unless it's something I can't live w/o, I always try and find the vintage store with the best bang for it's buck.

What to look for in Vintage right now:
*Midi-Skirts: chic and trendy, they pair well with tights or a pair of ankle socks
bonus:  If you live in a colder climate, you can still wear them w/o freezing your thighs off!

*Shearling: From leather jackets to suede bags, this liner will keep you warm and looking stylish throughout the cold winter months.  Very effortless, it can be worn practically anywhere.
*Shoes!:  Look for penny loafers, oxfords, pointed toe heels, and kitten heels, they're all timeless and will compliment anything from a simple pair of jeans and a blazer, to a structured dress.  Classy is always in, and these shows are a testament!!
*Statement Jewelry: Pearls, chains, huge cocktail rings.  Looking for one of these in a vintage store, and you're sure to find a couple of these pieces.  Whether you want to layer a couple of strands, or just wear one piece to compliment a simple ensemble, vintage I find is the way to go!

(those who know me know I wear my grandma's, as well as my mom's jewelry all of the time)

So there you have it folks, a rather long post about what and how (kind of) to build a good vintage wardrobe this season.
As always, Stay Chic!

Q of the day:  What's your favorite decade inspired trend this season, and why?  Leave a your answer in the comments :)

Versace x H&M

Ok, I admit it: I'm a sucker for designer brands for less.  The latest collaboration of Versace and H&M is no exception.  I was so looking forward to getting a garment or two from this new collection, but sadly none of the H&M stores in my area will hold the clothes!
:( sadness.
BUT.  For thanksgiving my family will be going to Chicago, where there is indeed a store that will carry the beautiful clothes, and maybe, just MAYBE, there will be a dress or jacket left for me.
Fingers crossed, my dears :)
Here's a look at a couple more of my fave pieces from the collaboration:

Early Wishlist

Happy Holidays!
...too early?  I can't help it, Christmas time is one of my favorite times of the year (not just for the presents, I promise)!  In my anticipation for the holiday season to get here A.S.A.P, I've decided to post a few things at a time that I would love to get this Christmas.  Only a few at a time though, kind of like an advent calendar, except I'm starting mine much earlier than probably necessary :D
1.) Burberry Prorsum Shearling Jacket 2.)  Danijo Aram Collar Necklace 3.) Sigerson Morrison Boots
Until the next blog: keep classy and chic my friends :)

....A..Blog Post?

Lalalalala...
Oh, wait, I have a blog??

I have neglected my blog for to long, and apologizes are in order.  It's been quite the busy week, I'll tell you that.  Early Action applications to three of my schools are due tuesday, so I've been in sort of a mad dash to get everything submitted and "styled" (lolz).
Actually, I had taken pictures for a look that I was supposed to put on here yesterday, but after we were done, I found that there was no memory card in the camera! :'(
So I thought to myself "What would other fashion-fascinated women want to know about", and this my friends, is what I came up with.

MAGNETIC NAIL POLISH.  Oh yes.  I found this little gem on my latest trip to Sephora, and I absolutely had to have it.  It comes in silver, purple, and gold, but I picked up the purple (I'm hoping to eventually get the others :D).  It's truly quite amazing, but I will say this - if you aren't a patiant person, this isn't the polish for you.  It took me a long time to apply it to just one of my hands, and it really only came out looking good on my thumbnail, so I left that thumb painted and ended up taking the rest off.  But I'm going to give it another try after I submit my app...speaking of which...
I guess I should get back to college stuff :)
Until next time!
p.s- the pics at the top are from one of my college visits to Loyola Marymount University (in Los Angeles, CA)

Black and White

Ciao Bella's!
Today started out rather chilly, so I opted for a more covered up look (and I of course had to add a scarf, I swear I have an addiction to them :P).  The blouse is one from the Missoni for target line, an item my mom actually snagged for me before the rackes were raveged.  It's a really nice, light material that I hopefully will be able to wear year round, with a sweater or maybe even a blazer.  Lots of different options, which is helpful when you don't know what the weather's going to do on a daily basis!  I also managed to get a cute sleeveless dress with a zig-zag down the middle, that looks very reminisent of the 60's.  Pair that with a bun on the top of your head, and your good to go.

This was just a quick little post, but if you have any specific requests for outfits or reviews, leave a comment!

A make-up blog: The Cat-Eye

 Well hello!
So, I'm not usually one to do makeup blogs (and I most likely won't do very many on this blog, sorry!), since I tend to just stick with mascara and foundation on a daily basis.  That being said, I was feeling the need to add some eyeliner to my outfit the other day.
Did I try just a simple black line?  Heavens no!  I went all in, and did the cat-eye!
Classic, yet chic,  It probably wasn't the smartest choice seeing that I had never tried this makeup trick before.  Suprisingly, it didn't turn out half bad.  There are a few suggestions though that I would make to those who are up to the challenge of creating this look:
-Start by first making a standard line across your top eyelid
-Then, start the wing part of the cat-eye from the end, connecting it to the line across your lid.

Probably not the best explanation, but, you get the idea (if not, I tried to capture the cat-eye I made in the two pics).  It's a really cute, modern, makeup look that'll compliment many different outfits.  It's also very on-trend with the 60's mod style right now :)

"Fall"-ing back into style

Goodness.
It has been to long, my apologizes :)  Life has been crazy with a whole bunch of stuff, but that's no excuse for leaving my blog bare in the first week of the October!  The temperatures have most definitely been dropping where I live, so it's time now to break out my favorite Autumn Essentials!

1.) Chunky knits: I love me some vintage clothing, and lucky for me, on a recent trip to clean my grandmother's condo, my Dad found BOXES of her old clothing.  Treasures, I tell you!  Though they have been hiding in boxes for god knows how long, I will give them the chic life they deserve :)
Cute with a pair of jeans and riding boots (always popular in the fall), but also with a skirt and a pair of edgy flats.  Perhaps leopard printed or studded?
2.) Scarves: I have a huge weakness for scarves.  No joke.  This fall, I have gathered a bevy of differently patterned neck-warmers.  My favorite probably has to be the black, loop scarf that I acquired on a family trip to Bar Harbor, Maine.
3.) Colored Pants:  A big trend this season is colored pants.  From cords to jeans, in all colors of the rainbow, they're a great statement piece, and a great way to bring some life into the colder days that are to come.  I like to wear mine (a pink pair with grey sharks that I got from Billabong) with just a plain black or grey t-shirt and a pair of woven sandals.  Now that it's getting colder, I'm going to need to get myself a pair of warmer shoes, perhaps some cute Doc Martens??  I have been wanting a pair for months!  Another thing on my list?  A pair of blue corduroys from J. Crew :)

Well, for now, I set you forth to go and shop till you drop (drop because of all the awesome fall knits you have in your hands, that is :P)!

Back to school shopping!

As sad as it is to say goodbye to summer,  I always look forward to the joy that is back to school shopping (well the clothing part at least).  Though there are a few little essentials that I will shop for throughout the first semester (plain t-shirts, jeans, and a couple pieces of statement jewelry), I have compiled a group of fall essentials that I'm excited to wear with a number of different outfits :)
1.) sweater dress from J.Crew
I was super excited when I found this at their collection store down in miami when I went for a tour of the U of Miami campus.  It works by itself with a pair of nude heels for right now, but I'll also wear it into the winter by adding tights/leggings and a scarf :)
2.) menswear shoes
These shoes feel like they'll never go out of style.  Cute with jeans and a t-shirt, structured pants and a blazer, or even a dress, these will last for a long time (and also from j. crew :D)
3.)Jewel-Tone Blouses
I love how they give an instant pop of color to an outfit that might other wise be drab.  For fall I'll be wearing them with dark wash jeans, black pants, and little black skirts.

So yeah, those are just a few things that I got for the first week of school.  Feel free to comment and let me know of any reviews on products or trends you'd like me to do.  I'll be doing a couple of hauls soon, , and I'll be posting pictures from my J. Crew hall soon as well, so stay tuned!

Purple Rose Theatre Cam- Filming Day

So for the past two weeks I have been participating in a Teen Intensive at the Purple Rose Theatre in Chelsea, MI.  I do love to perform on stage, but today, we filmed short scenes on film, and I can honestly say that now more than ever I want to be a film actress!  Filming the scene was probably one of the most fun things I've done in a really long time, at least this summer.  After it was over, I just wanted to film more and more scenes!  But I think having the experience that I did today really made me realize that film acting is something that I really want to pursue in my life, and that if I didn't, I would look back and my life and wonder why I didn't at least try :) So yeah, just thought I would share how happy I was today with anyone who's reading this post :)

Summer Style: Hats

This summer I've become really obsessed with wearing hats to the pool and to the beach.  My favorite is a kind of 60's inspired wide brimmed black straw hat, perfect for a hot day in the sun w/o being to heavy.  Fedoras are also a big summer hat trend, but they have been in for a couple years now.  I didn't own any until this summer, when I found a vintage one of my grandpas at his condo when we were getting prepared for a sale.  Fedora's are a little more understated then wide-brimmed hats, but they still give off a chic feel that adds spark to a regular pair of jeans and t-shirt :)

A fun accessory, and a cool summer project

Yesterday I was rummaging through my jewelry, looking for a statement necklace to wear with a plain black t-shirt and khaki shorts.  I thought I was out of luck until my dad came back from a yard sale with vintage turquoise and gray necklaces.  At first glance, they looked to be made up of small pebbles, but with a closer look, they were actually kernels of corn!  I chose the turquoise one to wear out, but I will definitely be wearing the grey one soon!  These necklaces also seem like a a fun DIY project, only requiring a color of dye, corn kernels, string/wire, and a utensil for putting a hole in the kernel.  I'll be trying this out soon, so stay tuned for pics! The kernel necklace was a fun and unexpected addition that added a pop to my plain black t-shirt.

New Blog!

Bonjour!
So this is my new blog where I'll talk about the things that I enjoy most: fashion, music, film/acting, the ocean, makeup, and life!  Never blogged before, so I look forward to sharing my opinions and ideas with those who choose to read my blog!
